Officials are looking for a 70-year-old Sterling woman after the body of her husband was found inside their home Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Sterling Police Department, officers responding to a medical call at 409 S. Third Ave. at about 1 p.m. Thursday found 70-year-old Charles Roger Severance dead. While investigating the man's death, they were unable to locate his wife, Shirley Anne Severance, who lived in the home with him.
The press release states that the SPD has launched "an extensive investigation investigation into the cause of death of Charles Severance and the whereabouts of Shirley Severance," with help from the Logan County Sheriff's Office, Logan County Coroner's Office and the 13th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Shirley Severance is described as 5 feet tall and 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The release states officials are looking for her for questioning, and that they want to verify her well-being.
"Current assessment of the investigation and evidence does not indicate any overt threats or public safety concerns," the press release states.
An autopy was scheduled for Friday on Charles Severance.
Friday afternoon, Sterling Police Chief Tyson Kerr declined to identify the person who called for assistance, but said that information might be released at a later date. He said the department was "actively following up on some information" in regards to locating Shirley Severance.
He noted that there has not been much history of calls to the home. He said the couple has other family in the area, and all relatives have been notified.
The SPD asks that anyone with information regarding the case or the location of Shirley Severance call the department at 970-522-3512 or Crime Stoppers at 970-522-3937.
