#MISSING: Lauryn Garrett, 23 - Sequim, WASHINGTON

Many families know the pain of having a loved one dealing with addiction. But near Port Townsend, a young woman has disappeared for so long, her family and police worry she is the victim of foul play.

Search teams walked the trails and beat the brush at the Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park Thursday evening looking for any sign of Lauryn Garrett.

"She was looking forward to coming home," said her stepfather, Brett Christianson.

The 23 year old woman just out of rehab last contacted her family with a borrowed cell phone on May 1 from the Haines park and ride in Port Townsend.

Daryl Moegling found a duffel bag of hers almost a week later.

"I don't know what to think," he said. "It's just bizarre. The bag turned up like six days since she disappeared."

"No correspondence, no friends, nothing on Facebook," said Christianson. "Nobody knows where she is, and nobody has heard from her."

Using GPS and orange markers, volunteers check sections of the park off the list, even scanning the surface of the water.

"I would think something would have floated to the top by now," said Joe Nole, chief criminal deputy of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office.

A Safeway surveillance camera captured her buying a bottle of vodka and soda the night she disappeared. Her worried family wonders if she reached some sort of crossroads and chose a wrong path.

"She has a tattoo of a bird behind her ear, and I said 'What's that?' and she said 'I'm a free spirit,'" said Christianson.

If only they could find where that free spirit flew off to.

Garrett is 5'7", between 120 and 130 lbs.

Anyone with information of her whereabouts should contact the Port Townsend police.
