The 13-year-old girl who has been missing from her Tuscaloosa home since April 27 has been found and returned safely to her family, relatives said in a press release Saturday.
Jovana Hill was seen leaving her house barefoot one night in late April and was declared missing a few days later. Investigators believed she may have been with a 24-year-old man who is wanted in Tuscaloosa County on charges of second-degree sodomy and statutory rape.
More than a month after her disappearance, Hill is back home with her family.
"The family is thrilled to announce [Jovana] has been located and returned safely to her home in Tuscaloosa," her relative said in their statement. "This past month has been the hardest 30 days of our lives, and we are so pleased to have our baby back home."
The specifics of Hill's disappearance and her return to her family are still not clear. Citing the on-going investigation into the case, the family opted not to disclose further details in their press release.
The family also thanked those in Tuscaloosa and around the country who pitched in to aid in locating Hill and getting her home safely.
"We cannot express how much we appreciate the support of friends, family, and concerned citizens," they said. "Making phone calls, circulating flyers, contacting local and national media, making donations, and continually praying have all contributed to this positive outcome. You have all been our heroes and we are so thankful to have so many rally around us for support."
