Earthly Body Located: Maurice Darnell Munford, 22 - Maryland

A man whose body was found in a Montgomery County retention pond on Tuesday had been reported missing four days earlier, police said Wednesday morning. Officials identified him as Maurice Darnell Munford Jr., 22, of Bailiwick Terrace in Germantown.

Exactly how he died was still being investigated. Police are expected to release autopsy information later.

On Friday, family members of Munford filed a missing person report at 10:40 p.m. Detectives determined he was last seen the day before, about 2 p.m., in the area of Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg. Over the weekend, police appealed for the public's help in finding Munford, citing his family's concern about his "emotional well-being."

On Tuesday morning, a passerby saw a body in a retention pond next to the mall and called authorities. Rescue workers and police officers recovered the body and pronounced Munford dead on the scene.
