Two women reported missing out of Dinwiddie were found safely, more than a day after they went missing.
The Dinwiddie Sheriff's Office tells NBC12 87-year-old Mary Lee Lambert and 79-year-old Lillian Snead Rickmond were spotted in a Virginia Beach Mcdonald's Friday night.
Family members say they were last seen leaving Mary Lambert's son's home in Dinwiddie, Thursday afternoon.
They were supposed to be driving back to their homes in Scottsburg, in Halifax County, but never made it.
NBC12 spoke to Lambert's son, Charles Wagstaff. He says, he took his mom and aunt to "K and L Barbeque" in Hopewell for lunch. After they returned to Wagstaff's home, the women took off in Mary's gold, 2004 Chevrolet Impala with Lillian behind the wheel.
According to family, both women showed signs of early onset dementia. The Alzheimer's Association reports, three in five people with Alzheimer's will wander at one time or another.
"They wander for a couple of a reasons: one is, they're going to the same place they've gone to for years but one day they make a wrong turn and get completely lost," said Sherry Peterson, CEO of the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Richmond. "Another reason is that they go looking for something in their past."
The Sheriff's Office tells us someone recognized the women after seeing their pictures on television. Their families are now heading to Virginia Beach to reunite with them.
