The Texas Department of Public Safety issued an Amber Alert Sunday evening for a missing 14-year-old girl.
Mount Pleasant police said a woman and two children were kidnapped at knifepoint around 1 p.m. Sunday at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in that East Texas city about 100 miles east of Dallas.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jesus Ramirez, freed woman and one of the children a short time later, but fled with Ruby Zavala.
The car being driven by Zavala was found wrecked at 4:45 p.m. Sunday about eight miles west of Mount Pleasant. A search was under way near that location for Ruby and Ramirez.
Ruby Zavala was last seen wearing a white top, blue jeans and tan shoes. She is 5 feet tall, 120 lbs., and has black hair and brown eyes.
Jesus Ramirez is described as Hispanic, 5′-9″, 165 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap.
Mount Pleasant police said Ramirez is considered to be armed and dangerous and mentally ill.
