Authorities were asking for the public's help Wednesday in finding an at-risk elderly Bay Point man who disappeared over the weekend.
A family member noticed on Saturday that 77-year-old John McConeghy was missing from his Pacifica Avenue apartment in Bay Point, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
The family member looked for McConeghy for two days before notifying the sheriff's office late Monday.
According to the sheriff's office, McConeghy, who suffers from dementia, has wandered away from home before but has usually been found a short time later.
Deputies searched an area near McConeghy's home on Tuesday night but were unable to locate him. The sheriff's search-and-rescue team was continuing to look for McConeghy this morning.
Local hospitals, law enforcement agencies and some 3,500 households have been notified about the disappearance, Lee said.
McConeghy is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. He walks with a limp, and was last seen wearing a white hat, brown jacket, yellow shirt and blue slacks, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office was asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the office at (925) 646-2441.
