Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of 38-year-old Clinton Wesley Cope, whose body was found Monday afternoon in a wooded area in the 1400 block of Mohawk Ridge Road.
Cope was last seen on Nov. 18. His body was found in a wooded area on property owned by his father.
Cope's father, Donald Cope, was in the woods about 5:45 p.m. Monday near his home at 1415 Mohawk Ridge Road when he saw "what appeared to be a body from a distance," sheriff's Lt. Wesley Holt said in a report.
Fearing it might be his missing son, the father asked a neighbor to check the body.
Cope was reported missing on Nov. 19. In December, the Greene County Sheriff's Department asked for the public's help in locating him.
The neighbor called the Sheriff's Department after seeing the body and showed deputies where it was.
The body was face down on the ground with a shotgun under it, the report said. Investigators and the county coroner were notified.
"I do not suspect any foul play at this time. However, it's an ongoing investigation, and I won't know anything until the autopsy is completed," sheriff's Detective Capt. Jeff Morgan said today.
