Tentative Identification: Earthly Body Located: Cynthia thomas, 52, Las Vegas, NV
Body found in southwest valley matches missing woman
LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun & KSNV MyNews3.com) – A deceased female matching the description of Cynthia Thomas has been located by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police department.
The Nye County Sheriff’s office has been searching for a Nye County woman last seen in Las Vegas who was reported missing since Friday.
Police say Thomas, 52, was with a friend in Las Vegas getting gas to prepare to head to Pahrump. She was last seen in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill driving a 2002 Gold Pathfinder with Nevada veteran plates.
The Las Vegas Sun reported a female body was found Wednesday afternoon inside a vehicle left unattended for several days in a crowded southwest valley parking lot, according to Metro Police.
Police officers were called to a strip mall parking lot at the 8060 lot of West Blue Diamond Road, near Buffalo Road, shortly after 2 p.m., according to Metro Lt. Bruce Miyama.
According to the Sun, an employee of a nearby business noticed a smell emanating from a Nissan Pathfinder that had been left unattended for three days.
The employee peered through the sports utility vehicle’s windows and saw what appeared to be a body and called police, Miyama said.
“The citizen noticed the smell and called in,” Miyama said. “A body left in this heat, the smell is going to be really bad.”
Metro did not release any other details about the condition of the body. The deceased woman’s identity will be released by the Coroner’s Office, pending an autopsy.
The death is not being treated as a homicide at this time, Miyama said. Finding a dead body in an unattended vehicle is “not very common,” he added.
The Nye County Sheriff's Office (775-751-7000) and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (702-828-3111) are asking for assistance.
