A Los Angeles woman with Alzheimer's disease visiting a friend in the Logan Square neighborhood disappeared Saturday, police said.

Carmen "Chela" Garza, 74, has been visiting and staying with a friend near Armitage Avenue and Rockwell Street and disappeared about 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a Chicago Police Department missing person alert.

Garza lived in Chicago on the North Side at one time, according to the alert from Area North detectives. Public records show she may have lived in the 5200 block of West Montrose Avenue in Jefferson Park and in the 4700 block of North Kasson Avenue in Albany Park over the years.

―>Garza has Alzheimer's, diabetes and high blood pressure, and walks with a limp because she has had knee-replacement surgery, according to police. She had not taken her medication when she disappeared.

―>Garza is Hispanic, with a light complexion, gray, yellow and white hair, stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds, according to police. A photo distributed with the alert is about 10 years old, and Garza is more wrinkled than in the photo, and no longer has brown hair, police cautioned.

―>Garza was last seen wearing a brown T-shirt, a light green blouse, a rose or pink sweater, pink sweatpants and gray-and-green striped gym shoes.

Anyone who sees or locates Garza should call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
