The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where two young children were found alongside Interstate 90 Tuesday.
A construction supervisor at the I-90 interchange project at Mile Post 1, found two boys, age 3 and 6, sitting in the grass near the construction area around 9:10 a.m.
The boys told deputies that their mother had run out of gas and gone for help. The boys also told deputies that their mother had walked them to the location while it was still dark and raining.
The mother, Shannon Marie Germanton, AKA, Shannon Marie Duval, 27, of Spokane Valley, WA.
According to Post Fall Police Germanton and boys were seen at the Post Falls Wal-Mart around 8 p.m. Tuesday A person inside the Wal-Mart called officials to report Germanton was acting strange.
Medics arrived on scene and Germanton was using the bathroom. The boys were with her. Police said Germanton was carrying a gas can.
Medics said Germanton checked out and she said a friend was coming from Spokane to help her. The medics then left the scene.
Investigators learned that she was given a ride by a Jacklin Seed employee to the Exxon Station at Pleasant View Road and Riverbend Drive between 6:30 and 7:30 Tuesday morning. She told the employee that she had been in an argument with her boyfriend and just needed to get to a phone to call for a ride.
After being cleared by emergency medical providers, the children have been placed in foster care with the Department of Health and Welfare Child Protective Services. If anyone knows the location of Shannon Germanton, AKA Duval, or has seen her since early this morning, they are asked to call the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 446-1300.
