Case Number: 2012-00857
Circumstance: Catherine Sackrider, 59, was last seen
leaving her daughters home in Sylvania Township around 7 p.m. on
September 18, 2012. She was believed to have been en route to her home
in the Wall Lake area in northeast LaGrange County. Sackrider apparently
never reached her destination. She was thought to be traveling SR120 in
her pickup. She is 5′ 5″ tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has brown
hair and eyes. Catherine is a Sylvania native but now lives in Indiana.
She was in town visiting her daughter and grandchildren. Her vehicle was
discovered abandoned at Whetstone Park in Sylvania OH on Tuesday
September 25, 2012. Police said they found her purse and a picture of
her late husband inside the car. Flyers have been posted around the park
where her truck was found , as well as around Sylvania, and Sylvania
Township. Prior to her visiting her daughter in Ohio she had a break in
at her home in LaGrange, Indiana. Her purse was on the counter, however,
the only items stolen was her cell phone and a butcher knife. It was a
special knife in which the tip was cut off by Mrs. Sackrider’s late
husband and used for cutting pies that she baked. Her daughter fears
someone may have intended to harm her at that break-in and changed their
mind. Now fear exists that perhaps the same person may have caused her
disappearance in Ohio. Although her family suspects she may have been
the victim of foul play, Sylvania Township Police Det. Jake Albright
said nothing yet indicates that is the case, but authorities are
“exploring every avenue.” Albright said police found no significant
clues in the pickup truck, a blue 2003 Chevy Silverado.
