A 70-year-old antiques dealer from Santa Cruz was reported missing Saturday after she did not arrive at her niece's home in San Diego.
Deanna Brooks planned to drive to a birthday celebration in San Diego, said Santa Cruz police spokesman Zach Friend. When Brooks didn't show up, her niece called Brooks several times without success.
Brooks' niece eventually called authorities and reports were taken by the California Highway Patrol and Santa Cruz police.
Brooks was last heard from about 11 a.m. Friday, when a co-worker received an email from Brooks that indicated she was still in Santa Cruz. Brooks' son saw her last in Santa Cruz on Thursday night.
"We don't know exactly what time she left," said Mary Milligan, who works with Brooks at Attilia's Antiques, 2630 Soquel Drive.
Police searched Brooks' home on Berkeley Way in Santa Cruz Sunday night. Her car was gone and no one was home, Friend said.
Police described Brooks a white woman about 5 feet 3 inches tall. She has brown hair and green eyes and walks with a walker, friends said.
Police said Brooks drives a gold, 2003 4-door Chrysler PT Cruiser. It is damaged on both sides, friends said.
Brooks' case is in a statewide database. The Santa Cruz police case number is 12S-07491.
