The Bergen County Medical Examiner on Friday confirmed that the remains were those of Mildred Soto, a 52-year-old woman who had been missing out of Belleville since early October.
Earlier this month, police asked for the public's assistance in finding Soto, who officials characterized as suffering from paranoia.
She disappeared from Belleville on Oct. 2, and was thought to have been in Manhattan or Bergen or Hudson counties.
A truck driver awaiting a shipment from a paper supplies warehouse on Market Street spotted a body floating near the river's banks on Wednesday, and called police.
