Allegheny County police are assisting the Pitcairn Police Department in the investigation of a noncustodial parental abduction.
The child, 4-year-old Raymont Pope, was taken to the movies by his father, Radford Pope, on Sept. 10 and has not been returned. Authorities said the two have not been seen or heard from since.
"After this time, he doesn't get any more visits. I want the visits to stop," said Raymont Pope's mother, Brandy Clark.
Raymont Pope lives with Clark but his father has weekend visitation rights. Last Wednesday, Radford Pope wanted to take Raymont Pope to the movies and Clark said OK, she said. Radford Pope drove to a Monroeville hotel where Clark works and picked up their son, she said.
"I'm not afraid for him. I just want him to come home," Clark said.
"The father has never been known to harm the child. She's not so concerned of physical harm, however, the child does have asthma and he doesn't have his inhaler at this time," said Allegheny County Police Lt. Thomas Ianachione.
Radford Pope is a Megan's Law offender, and has a criminal history, investigators said.
Family members claim Radford Pope was found with Raymont Pope in a homeless shelter in Los Angeles in 2010, and he took him to New York in 2011 without permission. According to family members, these incidents are why Radford is on the Megan's Law website.
Warrants are out for Radford Pope's arrest.
According to police, Pope is known to have ties in Clairton, Oakmont, East Pittsburgh, and Wilkinsburg, as well as out of state in Los Angeles, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Syracuse, New York, and the Washington D.C. area.
"We're not sure if he's left the state or not, but there's a strong possibility that he might have," Ianachione said.
Investigators said Radford Pope is known to operate a 2001 gray or silver Chrysler Town & Country Minivan, bearing PA Plate # JND 8004, with white lettering across the windshield "Chrysler."
Radford Pope is a black male, 43 years of age, and is 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds.
Raymont Pope was last seen wearing a striped Rocawear shirt, blue/tan/white in color, with a navy hoodie. He was also wearing black shoes, with multi-colored soles. He is 4 years old and his hair is closely shaved.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these two individuals is asked to contact Allegheny County police at 412-473-3000.
