The body of a hiker missing for three weeks west of Hamilton was located Sunday afternoon.
Climbers not related to the search discovered the body of 25-year-old Missoula resident Ryan Silsby at 3:28 p.m. in the Blodgett Canyon area, according to Silsby's family.
Silsby reportedly fell to his death during a climb in an area not visible to the searchers who had combed the canyon.
The search for Silsby involved multiple western Montana search and rescue agencies and hundreds of volunteers.
"We are so grateful to those who have supported this search on site, as well as those who have prayed and supported us in spirit," said Silsby's family, in a post to a Facebook page dedicated to the search. "We can never thank you enough for your outpouring of generosity during this time of crisis."
Silsby was an accomplished musician, a University of Virginia graduate, a teacher, and had been accepted to medical school.
