MISSING: Atticus Van Arsdale, 18 - San Diego, CA

San Diego California Area: MISSING
Atticus Van Arsdale, 18, an honors student, was reported missing at 8:53 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 after his father awoke and found Van Arsdale gone.

Van Arsdale did not attend his graduation Thursday night.

Det. Todd Richards of the Poway sheriff’s substation on Friday called Van Arsdale’s disappearance a mystery.

“He’s 18, so from this point it seems to be a case of a voluntary missing adult,” said Richards. “But there’s unusual circumstances, so we want to find him and make sure he’s okay. He’s a good student with no issues. He has scholarships to college in the fall.”

Search and rescue volunteers knocked on doors in Van Arsdale’s neighborhood and used tracking dogs on Thursday during their search. A helicopter was also used to broadcast messages for Van Arsdale. Richards said there were a few leads from the public, but nothing so far had panned out.

“At this point, there’s not anything more that search and rescue can do,” said Richards.

Van Arsdale was reportedly last seen at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He is a white male, who stands 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown or dirty blond hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt and jeans. Van Arsdale reportedly does not have a vehicle and does not drive.
