Around seven years ago,Enrique "Henry" Dominguez moved to San Antonio from California to retire.
A businessman, Dominguez purchased three houses in the area to lease and generate income, according to his nephew, Mike Mata.
"There were greener pastures for investing," Mata said of the climate that led his uncle, a drywall supervisor of nearly 30 years to come to the city.
Dominguez settled in a home in Bexar County in the 1800 block of Buffalo Wolf on the West Side.
"He's a generous guy," Mata said. "He's always wanting to take you to lunch, and always trying to help. I've never known him to look for trouble."
Dominguez was never the type of man to fall off the radar.
"He has never gone missing," Mata said. "He always lets two or three people know where he is going."
That all changed Jan. 2, the last time Dominguez was seen, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, which has spent weeks trying to locate the 68-year-old-man who disappeared, along with his black, 2011 four-door Mercedes E-35.
Mata said the family finally reported Dominguez missing Jan. 18 after they realized no one knew where he was.
"He always told someone where he was going, we just couldn't figure out who he told," he said.
On New Years Eve, Mata said Dominguez had gone out with a friend Mata described as a "drinking buddy" to celebrate with a few beers. He was the last man to have any contact with Dominguez, Mata said.
While Mata has still seen no trace of his uncle, he said the Mercedes he drove was recovered in the 1000 block of Jackson-Keller Road early in the week.
Mata said local authorities also recovered some of Dominguez's property near one of the three houses he leases in the 900 block of Martin Luther King Drive.
.
Though Dominguez was last seen Jan. 2, Dominguez had allegedly exchanged messages with the man he spent New Year's Eve with through Jan. 14. Mata said the messages the man received from his uncle seemed strange.
The first said message said he was headed to Tampa, Fla. Another said he was in Florida for an operation.
Dominguez, a diabetic, had a routine, Mata said. He did not take medication for his diabetes, managing it instead with diet and exercise. A blood sugar reading found at Dominguez home taken Jan. 4 was normal, Mata said.
"He was at the gym every morning at 5:30," he said. "That was his routine."
If Dominguez did need an operation, Mata said he was unaware of it, adding Dominguez had a pain management appointment with local doctors Jan. 6 that he missed.
Anyone with information on Dominguez's whereabouts may call the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at 210-335-6034.
