A man missing since Feb. 20 was found dead in the Meramec River on Monday night of an apparent suicide, police say.
The body of John Pena, 41, was discovered lodged in a tree along the riverbank, a half-mile south of the Flamm City Boat Ramp.
A person walking along the river spotted the body and called police at about 5:20 p.m. Monday, said Capt. Robert Ruckman of the Arnold Police Department.
Pena's truck was found abandoned nearby on Feb. 20. They searched the area near the river four times. Police used ATVs, search dogs and helicopters in their search but found nothing.
The river level dropped in the last few days, and police believe that's why the body was visible, Ruckman said. Police had classified the case as a suicide. Toxicology tests are pending.
