A body found in Blythe is that of a 62-year-old Alzheimer's patient from Moreno Valley who'd driven away in a family car, sheriff's officials say.
Ricardo Nava-Alamo disappeared Jan. 6 from his daughter's home near Perris Boulevard and Cottonwood Avenue.
He was driving his 1997 plum Honda Accord.
After he was reported missing, the family had blanketed the region in search of him. They had passed out fliers at shopping centers and neighborhoods from Fontana to across the state line in Quartzsite, Ariz.
Three weeks later on Jan. 26, the car was found in the Colorado River city of Blythe, abandoned with a dead battery and its keys in the ignition.
The discovery triggered several days of searches involving everything from helicopters to bloodhounds, sheriff's officials said. On Jan. 30, deputies in off-road vehicles found a man's body several miles from where the car had been abandoned.
On Monday, coroner's officials confirmed the victim's identity.
