A 12-year-old boy went missing Monday morning from the Mickey Mantle School, aka PS 811, in Manhattan.
The boy, who has a history of mental problems, ran off from PS 811, authorities told WABC. His name was not released.
Aircraft will be assisting police in their search for the boy.
This case comes about six weeks after the disappearance of another New York City student, autistic 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo, who walked out of his Long Island City school Oct. 4. Despite a massive search effort, Avonte, who is also nonverbal, has not been found. The city's education department recently announced plans to overhaul the way it keeps track of more than 100,000 special-needs kids, according to the New York Post.
If seen call 911.
Respectfully,
