Located Safely: Christopher Simondet, 30, Minneapolis, MN

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Suffering from non-life threatening injuries while being subdued by state troopers and a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy late Friday night, 30-year-old Christopher Simondet of St Louis Park is being treated at Regions hospital Saturday.

Lt. Eric Roeske with the State Patrol said several drivers called in at about 10 p.m. to report a man, later identified as Simondet acting suspiciously on I-94 near Century Avenue in the Oakdale/Maplewood area.

The officers responded and, not knowing Simondet is bipolar and off his medicine for nearly a week, things spiraled out of control quickly.

“He resisted being taken into custody by troopers, and troopers with the assistant of a Washington County deputy were able to take him into custody, and during that activity, Simondet was injured,” Roeske said.

Roeske also said police believe Simondet tried to tamper with a car at a local Chevrolet dealership. Given his mental condition, his immediate future is uncertain. With charges pending, it is likely he will stay in protective custody through the weekend, while his family and doctors try to plead his case.

Simondet was hospitalized as officers used a taser on him while taking him into custody. He is currently at Regions Hospital receiving treatment.

His family posted a message of thanks to the community for the help in searching for Simondet on their Facebook page.

“Chris has been found!!! We want to thank everyone for their efforts with this. We could not have done it without you,” the statement reads.
