The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 40-year-old Cherokee County man reported missing Sunday was found dead Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.
Jay Gerald Gentry, of Woodstock, was found in a vehicle behind an abandoned church on Turner Hill Road, Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said.
A Georgia State Patrol helicopter pilot located Gentry’s vehicle from the air and notified Woodstock police, who contacted the sheriff’s office, Baker said. The sheriff’s office is conducting a death investigation, Baker said.
Gentry’s cause of death was not known Thursday, but an autopsy is expected to be conducted at the GBI Crime Lab.
Gentry was last seen around 7 p.m. Sunday, when he left home without his cell phone, wallet or any money, according to police. He also failed to report to work this week, his family told police.
