Police have received about two dozen tips on possible sightings of a 76-year-old man missing since Tuesday, but so far none have led to his discovery, according to Sgt. Jim Baldwin.
Darwin Smith was recovering from a stroke when he walked away from Genesee Gardens on Calkins Road near Linden Road, police said.
Police searched a Flushing park Friday morning after a tip came in, but nothing was found, Baldwin said.
"We appreciate all the tips coming in," he said.
Smith is about 5'10'' tall and is believed to have left from around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to police.
Smith had just moved to the facility on Monday about four months after suffering a stroke, said his son, Jeff Smith of Swartz Creek. The stroke left him OK physically but had some confusion and memory issues, family members said said.
Multiple volunteers, including the Genesee and Shiawassee search and rescue teams are searching the area.
After searching the areas around Genesee Gardens on Thursday, volunteers expanded their search to other areas of Flint Township, Flushing and Grand Blanc. They have also searched Linden, Cook and Holly roads, among others, said Ron Adkins, head of the Shiawasee Search and Rescue team.
According to his family, he told a resident of Genesee Gardens that he was going to see his wife at a nursing home in Grand Blanc.
"Any road he could have conceivably gone, we are looking," said Smith.
A statewide alert also went out because Smith has a cottage on the west side of the state.
Anyone with information is asked to call Flint Township police at 810-600-3250.
