Earthly Body Located: Tyler Mayle, 22 (Colorado) - hiking accident in Utah

PROVO, Utah — It is the worst possible ending for a Windsor, Colo. family whose son had been missing for four days in the rugged mountains of Utah.

Tyler Mayle, 22, disappeared while on a hike on Y Mountain Saturday morning near Provo and hadn’t been seen since.

The search is now over with the discovery of the 22-year-old’s body.

Provo Police announced late Wednesday night they found Tyler’s body in a canyon. They say he may have been trying to climb a steep cliff and then may have fallen about 60 feet.

They have not released an official cause of death.

We do know Tyler went missing after he left his home about 10:00 a.m. then started his hike about 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

Police didn’t launch a search for the Brigham Young University student until Tuesday morning when his family called them after they hadn’t heard from him.

They left their Windsor home Tuesday to help with the search.

Tyler’s roommates assumed he was on vacation when they didn’t see him Sunday.

And despite no sign of Tyler for four days, his family held out hope he’d be fine.

“He likes the mountains. He grew up in Colorado. Spent a lot of time in Colorado…He was very accomplished in the mountains. It’s what he loves to do,” his father, Gary Mayle said.

Tyler graduated from Windsor High School in 2009.

He leaves behind his parents and two younger sisters.
