Earthly body located; Karen Ann Schroeder 51 - New Ulm, Minnesota

New Ulm police confirm they have located and identified the body of Karen Ann Schroeder who went missing earlier this week.

What started off as a hopeful search soon turned into a tragic discovery.

After a search party looking for Schroeder soon found what appeared to be her shoe near the cotton wood river, behind Schell's brewery.

Starting at 8:30 AM more than 60 volunteers, consisting of friends, family, and even strangers gathered to search for Karen Ann Schroeder, 51.

Schroeder's brother, Mark Klug, says,"It's been amazing and it has built hope in terms of finding answers and we thank them all."

Tonya Smith, a stranger to Schroeder and her family, organized the search in and around South Park in New Ulm to find any clues to Schroeder's whereabouts.

Smith says, "We don't know if she could've been there at night when nobody was there. You know just don't know how she can just walk out of her home and completely disappear and nobody see her?... I just don't see that happening in our community."

Trudging through snow, the groups searched through wooded areas.

Examining every space that could have been reached by foot.

Klug says, "My sister was someone who loved the woods, loved the parks, and loved natural surroundings. We feel she was very distraught that morning left on foot and went to an area that she would not be seen."

But shortly after 12 PM a member of the party located a brown dress shoe which led them to locate the body of Karen Ann Schroeder on the north side of the cottonwood river.

Police along with family members positively identified and removed the body just before 3 PM .Schroeder's death is still under investigation but no foul play is suspected.
