Spruce Pine Police officers located a missing woman and her children who were reported missing on Sept. 30 from Fairground Street.
Spruce Pine police asked for help locating Imelda Gerrero Herrera, 22, who was last seen on Sept. 27. She was reported missing by her live-in boyfriend on Sept. 30, according to police. Detective Kasey Cook said the couple's two children, David Gerrero and George Gerrero-Naverez, were also missing.
Cook said the woman's vehicle was found abandoned in Marion, NC near the courthouse in McDowell County. The children's car seats were still in the vehicle.
Herrera's cell phone, which had been turned off, was last pinged near Camden according to phone records. She moved to Spruce Pine from South Carolina a few weeks ago.
Cook said Herrera and her children were located on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 4 in South Carolina. Cook said a family member called to let him know Herrera and the children were safe and that they had "just wanted to get away."
