Earthly body located; Marissa Jackson 26 - Amherst, Massachusetts

Amherst woman's death not considered criminal

AMHERST, MA (WSHM) -
In a statement released to CBS 3 on Friday, officials from the Northwestern District Attorney's office said there is no foul play suspected in the death of an Amherst woman whose body was discovered Tuesday.

First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to determine the official cause of death for Marissa Jackson, 26, whose body was found in a wooded area near the intersection of Amity Street and University Drive in Amherst.

Gagne explained no life-threatening injuries were observed during the post-mortem examination, and toxicology results are pending.

Based on these preliminary findings, Ms. Jackson's death does not at this time appear to be criminal in nature, and there is no reason for the public to be concerned about its safety.

Jackson was first reported missing back on Sept. 5.
