A 17-year-old girl from Medfield who went missing on Monday has been found safe and unharmed in Rhode Island, the Medfield police chief said.
Brittany Thompson was found safe this morning after disappearing Monday afternoon. (Massachusetts State Police)
Brittany Thompson was found walking down a road this morning in Coventry, R.I., with a man believed to be in his late 20s, who gave police an address in Missouri, said Chief Robert Meaney.
“I want to emphasize the fact that she is safe, she is unharmed, she is OK,” Meaney said.
He said Massachusetts and Rhode Island police would continue investigate to find out what happened, “but at this point, we have had a conversation with the district attorney’s office and there are no criminal charges pending.”
Meaney said he had been notified that Thompson had been found at 7:30 a.m. and had quickly told Thompson’s parents, who headed to Coventry to reunite with their daughter.
He described the man as a “a male person of interest that we were starting to look at as part of our conversations.”
Thompson was last seen leaving the Medfield Public Library with the man at about 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Law enforcement officials alerted the media Wednesday, saying they believed Thompson was in danger. Meaney, at a news conference Wednesday, said Thompson had “developmental issues” that “impact her ability to make safe decisions.”
Asked at this morning’s news conference if Thompson had been forced to go with the man, he said, “It appears to us from the videos — and that hasn’t changed – that she appeared to go voluntarily with him.”
Asked if Thompson or the man had tried to run when they were located in Coventry, he said, “From what I understand, no.”
He said police would continue to investigate. “There’s a lot of pieces of the puzzle that we have not yet put together,” he said.
