BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Former Breckinridge County Sheriff Robert E. "Bobby" Haynes was found alive and safe Monday morning, nearly four days after he disappeared from his family's farm.

A search and rescue team from the Grayson County Detention Center found Haynes, 89, in a wooded area near his home, according to Breckinridge County Sheriff Todd Pate. Haynes was found inside the pickup truck he drove away in around 3:30 p.m. Thursday while family members were bailing hay on their property.

Pate said Haynes was possibly dehydrated when he was found, but that he appeared to be alert, in good spirits and able to speak. He was taken to Breckinridge Memorial Hospital in Hardinsburg for examination.

Haynes, who served as Breckinridge County sheriff in the early 1980s, has Alzheimer's disease. A Golden Alert was issued after his disappearance.
