The body of Ronald Kite, the Deerfield man missing since late July, was found in the Des Plaines River in Riverwoods on Wednesday and identified on Thursday, Lake County authorities said.
Kite, 69, was last seen getting into a taxi near the Deerfield post office on July 28 at about 4 p.m. A police search for him yielded few clues, Deerfield police have previously said.
On Wednesday, a body was discovered in the river in the village of Riverwoods. Late Thursday afternoon, Kite's body was identified, said Orlando Portillo, Chief Deputy Coroner for Lake County.
The cause of death is yet to be determined, pending toxicology tests, which could take 10 to 12 business days, Portillo said. There were no obvious signs of trauma.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said a canoeist spotted Kite's body near the bank of the river on Wednesday. Police, working with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department, responded to the call. There were no signs of foul play, Dayno said.
Kite's family could not be reached for comment.
Deerfield Police Sgt. Dave Walsh said more information would be released later today.
Kite's family said he may have suffered from depression, according to a previous news release. He left the house without his wallet containing identification and credit cards.
Kite was a substitute teacher for Deerfield's District 109 from 2003 to 2010, according to school officials.
