HOLLAND, MI -- Police say a 36-year-old Holland woman who went missing a month ago has been found safe in Roswell, New Mexico, and was away on her own volition.

Police in Roswell on Saturday evening spotted her Hyundai Accent in a hotel parking lot.

As they were investigating, VanDyke voluntarily came forward and spoke to the officer.

She then spoke to a Holland police investigator on the phone and he confirmed she was safe and in New Mexico on her own volition.

Holland police Capt. Jack Dykstra said VanDyke -- who was reported missing Feb. 19 by her ex-husband and last heard from on Feb. 14 when she sent a text message to a neighbor -- knew that family members were trying to find her.

He learned that VanDyke left for "personal reasons" associated with "family strife."

"She kind of wanted to unplug," Dykstra said.

"It's frustrating that people are worried about her and she chooses to remain where she is and stay away without any contact," he said.

"She has a lot of people asking questions," Dykstra said. "I don't know when we'll get the answers."

Police had no clue about VanDyke's whereabouts until March 10, when an automated plate reader on U.S. 70 near Alamagordo, New Mexico, captured her vehicle on camera.
