A 72-year-old man with Alzheimer's symptoms is missing from his West Side home.

–›Edgar Smith, whose nickname is "G," was last seen about 10 a.m. on Tuesday when he wandered away from his home on the 3900 block of West Lexington Street, police said today in a missing person alert.

–›He has trouble walking but left his cane in his room, police said, and although he might have some cash it is not known if he was carrying any identification.

Smith frequents the area of Pulaski Road and Lexington Street, but no one recalls seeing him there in the last few days. Although he has lived in the area for about four years, because of his Alzheimer's he might not remember his address or phone number, police said in the alert.

–›The alert describes Smith as black, 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds, with brown eyes, black and gray hair and a medium complexion. He needs his glasses to see, and was last wearing a dark brown coat and khaki slacks.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North Special Victims Unit detectives at 312-744-8266.
