The co-owner of a popular pizza restaurant in Rebohoth Beach is being sought as a missing person after not showing up at work on Saturday, police said today.

Nicholas S. Caggiano, 47, whose family operates two pizza parlors in Rehoboth Beach, was last seen about 7:30 a.m. Saturday when he left his home in the 38000 block of Burbage Lane in Ocean View, headed for Nicola Pizza at 8 N. First St., said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

He never showed up at work and has not been heard from since. Police, however, do not believe he is a victim of foul play.

In 2010, the family opened a new super-sized restaurant at 71 Rehoboth Ave., around the corner from their flagship location on First Street. The original eatery features an electric train that runs on a track suspended from the ceiling.

A local restaurateur, who did not want to be identified by name, described Caggiano Jr. as “very hands-on and always in the restaurants.”

Caggiano, who is married with two children, was reported missing by his family on Tuesday, police said.

Investigators believed that he would return on his own and did not make the missing person information public until today.

His disappearance did not meet the required criteria for the issuance of a Gold Alert, which is reserved specifically for suicidal subjects, persons over 60 years old and the disabled, Fournier said.

The family told troopers that Caggiano has gone missing before, although no reports had been made previously to police, and that he travels a lot.

Caggiano Sr., who was working in the restaurant today, was not willing to talk to a reporter.

─>Caggiano is described as being 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a button-up shirt.

─>He drives a gray 2013 Toyota Tacoma with Delaware registration CL93261, Fournier said.

Anyone with information on Caggiano’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Yeich at 856-5850, ext. 224 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800)TIP-3333.
