KNOXVILLE — A Maryville man reported missing last week was discovered dead of an apparent suicide in South Knox County this morning, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Troy McNeilly, 44, who family members had reported missing after he failed to return home Friday, the Maryville Police Department previously reported.
Investigators responded to the scene shortly before 10 a.m. after the body was discovered in the woods along railroad tracks, near the 4300 block of Joe Lewis Road, according to Knox County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Hillary Coward.
It appeared that McNeilly died of a "self-inflicted knife wound," she said.
More details as they develop online and in Thursday's News Sentinel.
