Mueller: Remains are identified as Corbin Wilt

The remains found over the weekend have been positively identified as those of Corbin Wilt, a Winfield man missing since May 2012, Cowley County Undersheriff Bill Mueller said Monday. Dental records were used to make the identification.

There were also personal items in the area of the remains that helped to make identification possible.

A family pet brought remains up to a home northwest of Winfield and the homeowners notified authorities Friday. More remains were found Saturday in an area near 65th Rd. and on, or nearby, property owned by a railroad company.

So far, no cause of death has been determined and it is unclear if enough remains were found for that to be accomplished. Mueller did say that, at this point, there was no evidence to suggest Wilt was a victim of foul play.

Wilt is a former Winfield Police officer and the son of county commissioner Wayne Wilt.

Below is a map of the approximate location where the remains were found. They were discovered just east of the red marker on the Google Map below on railroad and private property.
