The search continues for a woman from Crooked Creek, who has been missing for three weeks.

Mary Anne Alexie, 33, was attending college in Fairbanks but recently decided to change paths and study to be an emergency medical technician at the Alaska Career College in Anchorage.

Alexie arrived in Anchorage on October 9. She had been in town for less than a day when she was reported missing by family and friends, who say she was lost on Spenard Road and didn’t know how to get home.  It has been 23 days since anyone last heard from Alexie, something her family says is very unusual.

"My sister is always checking her phone, she's always calling,” says Alexie’s sister, Josephine Guynes.  “She hasn't called us -- that’s how we keep in contact. It's Facebook or e-mail or she calls, and she hasn't called or done either."

Despite few clues, no specific area to search and no real idea of where she went, police continue to search for answers.

"If you have a homicide, you know have a general idea of what happened, you have witnesses, you have bodies, you have remains,” says Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz of the Anchorage Police Department.  “In missing person cases, sometimes you don't know.”

Police and search teams have focused on posting fliers and searching the areas around Lake Hood and Lake Spenard, wooded areas along Spenard Road and along the railroad tracks.

For now, the search continues, and Alexie’s family back home in Crooked Creek say they’re praying she’s found safe.

“I want to be able to just hold her and tell her I love her,” says Guynes.  “Our family will not give up on looking for my sister.”

Alexie stands 4-feet, 11-inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
