Police are asking for help finding a family of five that has been missing for a week.

Myung Joo, 33, his wife, Youn Kim, 35, and their three children, Laura Joo, 5, Jenna Joo, 3, and Brandon Joo, 1, have been missing since October 23. A family friend reported Myung Joo missing after he did not return to work as planned on the evening of October 23.

Investigators discovered the Joo family is not at their residence located on Bravehart Drive and the family's 2005 Mercury sedan is missing. Both family cell phones have been turned off, but they did take their laptops with them.

Laura Joo was checked out of school early on October 23 by her father.

Frederick County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Amanda Hatcher said the family is from Korea and investigators have reached out to international authorities about the family. However, they do not believe the Joo family has left the country.

The Joo family's landlord searched their basement apartment and found most of their possessions abandonded.

"[Investigators] found it unusual that they left all of their belongings except for a couple of blankets and only took one of their vehicles," Hatcher said.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Joo family is asked to contact the Frederick County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 301-600-2071.
