#MISSING: Dominic Hofert, 53, Lewiston, NEW YORK

A well-known local jeweler has been missing since Monday night.
"Everyone is shocked, it's a tragedy" said Bob Bolt, owner of Mike's Subs, in Kenmore. Mike's is just a few shops away on Delaware Avenue from Hofert Jewelers, where the sign on the door reads 'closed due to family emergency.'
It was a little after 10:30 p.m. Monday, when its owner Dominic Hofert disappeared behind his home in Lewiston. It's just a few hundred yards from the Lower Niagara River, where police followed his single set of footprints in the snow, from his yard to the edge of the icy water.
The US Coast Guard brought in a helicopter from Detroit  early Tuesday morning. It searched for hours but found no trace of Dominic Hofert. Police have ruled out foul play, because he walked alone to the water. Police also have no reason to believe he was distraught.
"Preliminary investigation shows that speaking with the wife, that she stated that everything was normal, he was fine, he wasn't agitated, there was no problems or he wasn't under any duress. He was not on any medications" said Lewiston Police Sgt. Frank Previte.
It was a moonlit night, and it's possible he slipped into the icy water while out for a walk.
"And we hope there's a miracle of miracles that he's not gone, but it looks like he may be and it's gonna be a loss personally for him and his family. He's a quality guy, good guy, he believed in really quality jewelry."
Lewiston Police are asking anyone with information about Dominic Hofert's disappearance to call them at 716-754-8477.
