Earthly body located; Allen F. Brown, 80 - Milton, WISCONSIN

An official said a body found off Highway 59 in Evansville is tentatively identified as a man who's been missing nine days.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a white SUV partially submerged in Badfish Creek at 9:50 a.m. Friday.

Sheriff Robert Spoden said in a news release that the SUV was 80-year-old Allen F. Brown's white 2013 Ford Explorer with license plate 60YRS. Brown's body was found on the creek bank.

Brown was last seen alive Jan. 7. He was reported missing after family said he failed to return home from a luncheon with a friend in Monticello.

According to the release, Brown was driving east on Highway 59 toward Milton when he crossed the center line, and entered the ditch, then Badfish Creek. Brown exited the vehicle and made it to the creek bank, where he was found Friday.

The sheriff's office said the person who reported the vehicle in the creek discovered it while checking hunting traps. The vehicle in the creek could not be seen from the roadway or by passing motorists.

The pastor at United Methodist Church in Milton, Steve Scott, said a vigil that had been planned Friday night for Brown was canceled. Scott said in a statement Friday afternoon that the family had gathered in Milton Friday after they Brown's vehicle was found.

"The family is thankful for the outpouring of support these past several days and for everyone who helped look for Al," Scott said.
