Earthly body located; Almaz Gebremeghin 42 - Wylie, Texas

WYLIE -- Police believe they have found the body of Almaz Gebremedhin, who had been missing since Oct. 2, inside a car in a pond.

The medical examiner hasn't confirmed the identity, but the family confirmed with News 8 that the body found is Gebremedhin.

Investigators responded to a call around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon regarding a van in the Muddy Creek Farms pond, located on the 2500 block of McMillen Road in Wylie. Sonar equipment was used to locate the vehicle in the pond.


The body of Almaz Gebremedhin was found inside a van submerged in a pond Sunday.

A search and rescue team began its search Sunday morning. The family initially hired a private investigator to assist in the search for Gebremedhin. That private detective hired the search and rescue team out of Illinois. Volunteers also conducted a weekend search on foot.

A Collin County dive team conducted the search in the pond Sunday. Wylie police were called after the body was found, and the family was contacted.

Police are investigating how the car, a Chevrolet Venture, ended up in the water.
