Circumstance: (from media report)

At 3:56 p.m. Nov. 1, David Krawczenia’s longtime girlfriend sent him a text that she and their puppy were going to take a nap.

Nineteen minutes later, his cellphone went dead and the 48-year-old Portage man seemingly dropped off the face of the earth.

His silver Chrysler Sebring convertible is missing, and the green Cavalier the Portage man was supposedly seen driving last also has disappeared.

But Theresa Jacob, who has known Krawczenia since they were students at Lake Ridge Middle School and has dated him steadily for four years, dismisses any suggestion that her boyfriend left on his own.

“There’s no way David would do that to his mother, to his nieces, to his sister, to me, to our dog,” she said.

Krawczenia operates his used auto sales business at All About Auto, located at Central Avenue and Colorado Street on the city’s far east side. It was the place Krawczenia was seen last and where his phone was last operational that Saturday afternoon.

On Monday, about a half-dozen police officers combed the fields surrounding what used to be the Ewing farm, but found no signs of Krawczenia or clues about his disappearance.

Jacob reported him missing Nov. 2. Since then, his family has posted a $5,000 reward for information that leads to his return.

“David has some pretty serious health issues,” Jacob said. “He has Crohn’s Disease and rheumatoid arthritis. He doesn’t have his medication.”

Sgt. Mark Salazar said Krawczenia’s Sebring had been on the car lot the weekend he disappeared but is gone now. That car and the four-door green Chevrolet Cavalier could have Indiana dealer plates 1024W or 1025W, he said.

A man who operates a separate business at the site has refused to speak with detectives, police said.

Krawczenia is described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 204 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about Krawczenia’s disappearance can call Salazar at (219) 881-1209 or Sgt. Dan Callahan at (219) 881-1210.
