Earthly body located; John Casalaspro 25 - Staten Island, New York

Brighton resident who went missing on Staten Island earlier this month, according to family members.

An NYPD spokesman could not immediately confirm that account, citing an open investigation.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office on Monday identified the body found in Bayonne as the missing 25-year-old, but did not name the man, according to The Jersey Journal.

Casalaspro's family say police notified them Monday afternoon.

"Everybody's at a loss for words," said Doreen Slaven, Casalaspro's cousin.

The family is currently awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of his death, she said.

"Nothing is known yet besides that we have his body and Johnny is home. Now we just want to know what happened," Ms. Slaven said.

Casalaspro was last seen the night of Oct. 9 near a concrete pier behind a Mobil gas station at Bard Avenue and Richmond Terrace in Livingston, his family said.

He was reported missing to the police Friday morning when he did not show up for his job as a plumber's assistant.

"We expected the worse when he went missing, but that didn't make it any easier," said Ms. Slaven, who described her cousin as caring and family-oriented.

"He was always there for you -- he'd never just leave us like this."

Friends and family say they searched the area around Richmond Terrace every day, desperately wanting to find clues about his sudden disappearance.
