GREENSBORO, N.C. —An 80-year-old woman who was the subject of a Silver Alert was found dead Monday morning in a wooded area following an extensive search.

Rudene Franqui was found dead around 11:15 a.m. less than two miles south of her daughter’s home on Windhill Court, Greensboro police said.

Police are still trying to determine the cause and time of her death.

A Silver Alert was issued for Franqui's disappearance on Saturday. She was believed to be suffering from dementia.

Franqui was from Georgia and was in town visiting family, police said. Investigators at first believed Franqui may have boarded a bus or train back to Georgia, but surveillance video discounted that possibility.

Along with K-9 and ATVs, authorities used a state Highway Patrol helicopter to aid in the search Sunday night and Monday.
